Maintaining linen

Determine the durability of the antique linen. If you feel it won't withstand a good soaking, fold it neatly in a square and baste the edges with a colorfast thread.
  • In a tub of hot water and mild soap, soak the linens for a few hours.
  • Check the linen, if stains are still present, repeat the soaking process again. If stains persist, try laundry detergent and bleach.Refill the tub and add white vinegar.Let your stain-free linen soak up to 20minutes.
  • Drain tub,Refill with fresh water and let linen soak for 15minutes.
  • Undo the basting, and remove your linen from the water when you're certain theres's no soap residue left.Lay antique linens flat to dry.Keep them away from direct sunlight.
  • Iron linens when they are still quite damp, only if you intend to fold them neatly , and keep it away. When you are about to use them again, iron them on high and keep the iron dry.
